Sew & Sews

• September – Meet at Towpath Park at 5:30pm. Bring in new sew & tells, as well as UFO’s
• October – charity sew – patriotic quilts. We’ll meet at 3:00pm at the church
• November – Holiday Social 
• December – no meeting
• January – needlework demonstration.
• February – community service sew – patriotic quilts
• March – Serger month – bring in your serger and share a technique or ask questions.
• April – Kyle’s Quillows 
• May – needlework demonstration
• June – picnic at Towpath Park

What we do:

The Pottstown Sew & Sews is an ASG Neighborhood Group started about 7 years ago by Sue Lowry and Peggy.  Sue L (aka Our Fearless Leader) led the group until 2012, when she handed the reins to Marilou Nagy and Sue Carney as co-leaders. The Sew & Sews is a small but active group with many and varied interests. We have garment sewers, home dec sewers, crafters, quilters, hand embroiderers, machine embroiderers, and costumers.

Our group generally has community service sew-ins two or three times a year. We’ve made walker bags, blankets, fleece hats, onesies for the Hope of Life Home in Guatemala, pillowcases, Little Dresses for Africa, and have participated in the National ASG community service projects.

On non-sew-in nights we have demonstrations on fitting and sewing techniques, as well as occasional guest speakers. We’ve started a Foot-of-the-Month program, where a member demonstrates the use of a particular sewing machine or serger foot, and also have a yearly fabric challenge. This year at our holiday meeting we exchanged homemade potholders. Many of our members attended the Chapter Educational events with Cynthia Guffey and Susan Khalje, as well as the Annual Meeting and Luncheon.

During the summer we often go on field trips to local fabric and quilt shops. This year we traveled to Winterthur to see the Downton Abbey exhibit. We also had our own three day sewing camp at the church, where members were free to come and go and sew whatever they liked.

All ASG members are welcome to attend our meetings.
